Child Eye Health Counselor Training Programme

The Child Eye Health Counselor Training Programme is designed to introduce participants to core concepts and practical skills related to counseling within the context of paediatric eye care. With a person-centered approach, the course focuses on empowering caregivers, counselors, and support staff to engage empathetically and effectively with children and families.

Participants will learn how to differentiate counseling from other types of communication, apply active listening and supportive techniques, navigate ethical issues, and provide psychosocial support tailored to the emotional and cultural context of each child and family.

Course Objectives

  • Develop a clear understanding of what counseling is and how it differs from advice or instruction
  • Introduce core counseling skills including active listening, empathy, communication, and support
  • Recognize and interpret both verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Explore ethical issues and build awareness of the need for an ethical framework in counseling
  • Promote self-awareness, personal reflection, and growth among counselors-in-training
  • Offer experiential learning through role plays and practical exercises

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
